Romania’s beauty unfolded before the group, from the hauntingly historic Jilava Prison to the serene beauty of monasteries and castles among the mountains. Lauren described the craftsmanship and detail of these places as “surreal,” even though she didn’t consider herself religious.

The mystical Iulia Hasdeau Museum became a standout for Lauren with its spiritual symbols and stories of séances. “It really resonated with me,” she recalled, capturing the perfect blend of history and the otherworldly that defined much of the tour.

Castles, Halloween, and Lifelong Connections

What’s Romania without castles? Lauren was captivated by every one they visited, calling Peles Castle “the most beautiful castle I’ve ever seen in my life. EVER.” The highlight, however, was the Halloween party at Bran Castle, which she described as unforgettable: “Touring the castle was chaotic and labyrinthian, but partying under the stars in a medieval Romanian castle? Nothing will ever beat that night.”

The group danced, toasted with wine and shots, and solidified friendships that would last long after the journey ended. “We closed the castle down,” Lauren laughed, “then walked through the eerie, dead town back to our hotel.”

One of the most awe-inspiring parts of the trip was the visit to Hoia Baciu Forest, often called the world’s most haunted forest. Lauren’s words reflected the wonder and mystery she felt there: “Our guides were the best, and being able to be one with the forest was indescribable. A freaking fox came up to 35+ people not once, but twice! We watched shadows run back and forth, searched for UFOs, and talked to the forest spirits.”
