Shadows and Spirits of Old Munich!

Today, step into the living history of Munich—where beauty and mystery intertwine. Begin at the iconic Frauenkirche Cathedral, its twin domes rising above the city like sentinels of faith and legend. Beneath its solemn arches lies the curious imprint known as the Devil’s Footstep, a tale as chilling as it is timeless.

The afternoon is yours to wander—explore bustling markets, cozy beer halls, or hidden courtyards where stories linger in the stone.

As twilight settles, join a Munich Ghosts & Spirits Walking Tour, uncovering eerie tales of restless souls, medieval executions, and hauntings that still echo through the narrow lanes.

Return to Novotel München City, where comfort awaits after a day steeped in Bavarian lore.

The Cursed Peaks and the Spirits of Moosham

This morning, journey south to Berchtesgaden, where snow-dusted mountains guard centuries of secrets. Descend deep into the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine, an eerie subterranean world once called “white gold” for the wealth it brought—and whispered to be watched over by ancient miners’ spirits.

In the afternoon, explore the formidable Moosham Castle, a brooding fortress forever linked to the witch trials of the 1600s and the mysterious disappearances that followed.

As dusk settles over the Lungau Valley, return to the Alpine village of St. Michael, where local folklore comes alive. A Krampus or Perchten folklorist will reveal the chilling origins of these horned figures, complete with masks and costumes—perhaps even a small, thrilling mini-procession.

Overnight at the Landhotel Stofflerwirt where mountain legends still walk the night.

DAY 4- 🧭 Tues., 12/2/2025

Medieval Echoes and Yuletide Enchantment in Salzburg

Begin the day at Burg Mauterndorf, a magnificent 13th-century fortress that once guarded Alpine trade routes—and, some say, the souls of those who never left. Its towers whisper of noble intrigues and ghostly sentinels still pacing the ramparts.

Then, journey north to Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and a city steeped in Baroque splendor and holiday wonder. Lose yourself in the Salzburg Christmas Market, one of Europe’s oldest, where twinkling lights and centuries-old carols fill the air with warmth against the winter chill.

This evening, dine at leisure (on your own)— as we suggest the group gathers at the storied St. Peter Stiftskulinarium, Europe’s oldest restaurant, whose candlelit halls have seen a millennium of feasts and secrets.

Rest tonight at Wyndham Grand Salzburg, where old-world charm meets modern comfort.

DAY 5- 🧭 Wed., 12/3/2025

Guardians of Myth: From Celtic Spirits to Krampus Lore

Depart this morning on a journey through the roots of Alpine legend. In Hallein, visit the Museum of the Celts, where ancient artifacts reveal how early mountain tribes honored nature’s spirits and feared the darker forces of winter.

A special Krampus exhibit here unveils how those primal beliefs evolved into the horned, half-goat figure who stalks the snowy nights of Advent—a living echo of the region’s pre-Christian past.

Continue to the dedicated Krampus Museum, where masks, costumes, and chilling folklore bring this fearsome tradition to life.

As evening descends, enjoy free time in Salzburg, the city of music and mystery, before returning to Wyndham Grand Salzburg to rest beneath the watch of the Alpine peaks.

The Shadows of Salzburg: Fortresses and the Fiends of Hellbrunn

Awaken to a city steeped in legend and grandeur. Begin your day at Fortress Hohensalzburg, the mighty citadel that looms over Salzburg’s skyline—a stone guardian that has watched over the city since the 11th century. Its dungeons and towers hold tales of medieval alchemists, imprisoned nobles, and spirits said to linger in the ramparts.

In the afternoon, travel to Schloss Hellbrunn, a whimsical palace known for its trick fountains and curious Baroque gardens.

As dusk falls, the mood turns darker with the Parade of the Grossgmainer Krampusse, where horned figures, blazing torches, and rattling chains revive one of the Alps’ most fearsome winter traditions.

Return to Wyndham Grand Salzburg, still echoing with the roar and rattle of the night’s fiery spectacle.

PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability or weather & travel conditions.

DAY 7- 🧭 Fri., 12/5/2025

Beneath the Cross and the Cloven Hoof: Salzburg’s Hidden Spirits

Begin the day in quiet reverence at St. Peter’s Cemetery and Catacombs, one of Europe’s oldest burial grounds. Carved into the Mönchsberg cliffs, its stone chambers and ancient tombs whisper of monks, nobles, and the forgotten souls who still linger among flickering candles.

The mood lightens by afternoon as you spend some free time in Salzburg. Perhaps return to the Christmas Markets or plan a special short excursion. But be ready for nightfall, for that is when the fright of Krampus returns!

But the night brings back the thrill of myth and fire: the Salzburg Krampuslauf, when horned demons, angels, and jesters flood the streets in a roaring spectacle that blurs the line between folklore and nightmare.

Return to Wyndham Grand Salzburg, hearts racing and spirits alight.
