About Your Trip

A Shugyō Experience Into the Mystical Soul of Japan with Grant & Reanna Wilson

Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey into the heart of Japan’s spiritual and cultural essence, guided by renowned paranormal investigator Grant Wilson and spiritual practitioner Reanna Wilson. This 14-day immersive adventure during Japan’s autumnal equinox is far more than a tour—it is a shugyō, a sacred pilgrimage of inner transformation, ancestral connection, and mysterious discovery.

But this is only the beginning.

Throughout our journey, we’ll experience Japan’s rich cultural soul firsthand:
– Walk beneath thousands of crimson torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha
– Step into stillness at the Golden Pavilion and the moss-draped mystery of Okunoin Cemetery
– Dress in traditional kimono, create your own ritual incense, and join esoteric fire ceremonies alongside monks in sacred Kōyasan
– Explore the megalithic secrets of Asuka, the hauntingly beautiful Aokigahara Forest, and the eerie ruins of the Kaizuka Sanatorium

You’ll also witness the grandeur of the Taiga Reiken Ceremony, an exclusive and rarely seen spiritual rite during Kyoto’s fall festival season. Here, ancestral spirits are awakened through candlelight and chant in a deeply moving event that few travelers ever get to experience.

By night, follow flickering lanterns into Japan’s haunted side—guided ghost tours through Kyoto’s ancient streets, paranormal investigations at sacred shrines and abandoned sites, and immersive storytelling in legendary landscapes like Oiran Buchi Gorge and Awashima Shrine, where spirits of the forgotten still stir.

Grant and Reanna Wilson will guide you through every step—offering insight, spiritual grounding, and connection as we explore Japan’s most hidden layers, both mystical and cultural.

This is not just a tour—it’s a transformational passage through spirit, story, and centuries of sacred tradition.

After checking into our hotel, we’ll gather together for a heartfelt orientation and group debrief, creating the sacred circle that will guide us through the days ahead.

From here, we travel to Minami Senju, a district steeped in haunting history, to embark on a guided ghost tour. Through lantern-lit alleys and forgotten corners, we’ll uncover Tokyo’s shadowed stories—including the chilling Bridge of Tears, where legends of sorrow and restless spirits linger in the night air.

Our first evening concludes with a welcome dinner, where the flavors of Tokyo mingle with laughter and new friendship. The journey has begun, and the veil is already stirring.

Sensho-Ji Temple

Sacred Spaces & Spirit Echoes — Temples, Tea, and Tranquility

We begin our day at Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s oldest and most beloved temple. Beneath the vibrant red gate and drifting incense smoke, we’ll walk in the footsteps of pilgrims past—welcoming blessings from the Bodhisattva Kannon and soaking in the timeless spiritual energy that still pulses through this ancient ground.

Next, we journey to the serene gardens of Happo-en, where we’re invited into a traditional Japanese tea ceremony—a sacred ritual of mindfulness, harmony, and quiet grace. As matcha is whisked and served with precision, allow yourself to become fully present in this fleeting, poetic moment.

In the afternoon, we continue to the revered Meiji Jingu Shrine, hidden among towering forest paths in the heart of the city. This shrine honors the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken—guardians of a modernizing Japan and ancestral figures of deep cultural resonance. Here, you’ll have some reflective free time to explore the grounds, offer a prayer, or simply wander beneath the towering cedar trees.

We return to Tokyo for the evening, hearts full and senses awakened by the sacred stillness found amid the city’s pulse.

Sacred Steps in the Foothills: Temples of Reflection & Renewal

This morning, we bid farewell to the bustle of Tokyo and set our path toward the tranquil embrace of Japan’s sacred mountains.

Our first stop is Doryo-dō Temple, a place where silence carries the whispers of devotion and centuries of prayer still cling to the air. Here, we pause to feel the weight of tradition and the presence of the unseen.

Next, we experience a taste of monastic life with an independent shōjin ryōri lunch at Kakurinbo. This temple-style cuisine—simple, seasonal, and deeply symbolic—reflects the Buddhist practice of mindful eating, inviting us to savor nourishment as ritual.

The journey continues with a visit to Kuon-ji Temple, a site of spiritual power and breathtaking vistas. As we walk its hallowed grounds, we enter a space designed not only for worship but for renewal of the spirit, where each step becomes a meditation.

The day closes with a sense of harmony between body, soul, and the sacred landscape that surrounds us.

From there, we step into the depths of mystery with a guided walk through the Aokigahara Forest. Known as the “Sea of Trees,” this place has long been shrouded in both legend and sorrow. With mindful reflection, we’ll experience the forest not only as a site of haunted memory but also as a living cathedral of nature, where silence speaks louder than words.

We then descend into the Fugaku Wind Cave, an otherworldly chamber of stone and ice once used to preserve offerings for survival. The air here hums with earth’s breath, carrying the weight of centuries.

Our day concludes in the restored village of Saiko Iyashi-no-Nemba, where thatched rooftops and artisan crafts preserve the spirit of old Japan. Here, travelers may enjoy dinner on their own, choosing from traditional flavors that connect the past to the present.

In the shadow of Fuji, we find both beauty and mystery—reminders of life’s fleeting balance between creation and decay.

Waters, Shrines & Fire: The Living Spirit of Hakone

The morning greets us with the shimmering expanse of Lake Ashi, where we board a pirate boat cruise across its legendary waters. Mist curls over the surface as Mount Fuji looms in the distance, an eternal guardian watching our passage.

Our next step carries us to the sacred Hakone Shrine, hidden among towering cedars at the water’s edge. Here, we’ll walk beneath the vermilion torii gate that rises from the lake itself—a threshold where the human and divine worlds meet.

In the lakeside town of Moto-Hakone, enjoy an independent lunch surrounded by mountain air and quiet views before ascending into the volcanic heart of the region.

By ropeway, we glide skyward to Ōwakudani, the “Great Boiling Valley,” where plumes of sulfur rise from the earth in ghostly clouds. A guided walk through this volcanic basin offers both awe and humility—a reminder of the living fire that stirs beneath Japan’s surface.

As the sun sets behind Fuji’s silhouette, the echoes of water, shrine, and flame weave together, carrying us deeper into the mystery of the land.

For lunch, we pause to enjoy a local bento, a humble yet artful meal that reflects the flavors of the region and the quiet rhythm of temple life.

In the afternoon, we are welcomed into an old temple lodging, where mountain monks share their hauntingly beautiful bamboo horn ritual. The deep, resonant tones echo through the halls, calling forth a sense of timeless stillness and devotion.

Our journey continues with a visit to the main temple building of Mt. Horaiji, a place that has stood for over a thousand years as a sanctuary of worship and pilgrimage.

Along the Omotesandō pilgrimage street, we encounter ancient stone steps and rustic stalls before arriving at the awe-inspiring Kasasugi Cedar, a towering tree that has witnessed more than eight centuries of prayers, storms, and pilgrims.

From stillness, we shift to motion as we board the bullet train to Kyoto, a breathtaking ride that carries us through landscapes of mountains, rivers, and villages at extraordinary speed. Along the way, we pause for lunch, savoring a moment of reflection between journeys.

Upon arrival, we step into the hallowed halls of Sanjūsangendō Temple, home to one thousand serene statues of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. Surrounded by their watchful presence, we encounter a sense of awe that is both humbling and transcendent.

The evening unfolds with free time in Kyoto, where travelers may wander through lantern-lit streets, explore artisan shops, or enjoy dinner at leisure.

Afterward, we travel to Arashiyama, pausing for lunch before stepping into the ethereal beauty of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Towering stalks sway above us like green cathedrals, their rustling leaves carrying the sound of ancient breath. Here, light and shadow weave together in a dreamscape unlike anywhere else.

As evening approaches, we attend the Awata Taisai Festival’s Reiken Ceremony, a sacred ritual of purification where divine flames are carried to banish misfortune and call in blessings for the season ahead.

Our night concludes with a Kyoto ghost tour, delving into dark tales and urban legends that haunt the city’s streets and bamboo paths. Under the cloak of night, we follow stories of restless spirits and cursed lovers, letting the uncanny side of Kyoto reveal itself in whispers and shadows.

Within its quiet halls, we pause for reflection in its famous Zen rock garden, where patterns of stone and sand mirror the stillness of the cosmos.

For lunch, we share in the monastic tradition of shōjin ryōri, a temple-style vegetarian cuisine that embodies simplicity, mindfulness, and reverence for life.

In the afternoon, we step into the otherworldly realm of Okunoin Cemetery, Japan’s largest and most sacred resting place. Guided along lantern-lit paths beneath towering cedars, we’ll encounter moss-covered gravestones, timeless statues, and the legendary mausoleum of Kōbō Daishi himself. Here, amidst the hush of the forest and the flicker of eternal lamps, the boundary between the living and the departed feels hauntingly thin.

As dusk gathers on Mount Kōya, the day closes in a spirit of reverence, remembrance, and wonder.

Guardians of Time: Nara’s Shrines, Spirits & Ancient Tombs

The morning opens at one of Japan’s most awe-inspiring sites—the Great Buddha Hall, where the towering bronze Daibutsu gazes serenely across the centuries. Within this vast temple, silence carries the weight of devotion, inviting us to reflect beneath the watchful presence of this monumental guardian.

From here, we step into the lively harmony of Nara Park, where sacred deer roam freely among visitors. Lunch and leisure time allow for exploration—wander beneath ancient trees, visit small shrines, or simply enjoy the quiet company of these gentle messengers of the gods.

Our journey takes a darker turn with a visit to Ōmiwa Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest and most mysterious shrines. Known for its deep ties to the supernatural, we’ll engage in a paranormal investigation, seeking to connect with the unseen forces that linger around its sacred grounds.

The day concludes at the enigmatic Ishibutai Kofun in Asuka, a megalithic tomb shrouded in legend. Here, colossal stones form a chamber said to guard both ancient rulers and whispered mysteries. Our morning begins at the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of vermilion torii gates wind their way up the sacred mountain. As we pass beneath these arches, we walk a path of blessings, guided by fox spirits said to guard the shrine’s mysteries.

From there, we journey to Awashima Shrine, a sacred site known for its extraordinary rituals. Here, countless dolls—each carrying stories, prayers, and burdens once held by their owners—are offered in ceremonies of release. Through guided storytelling, we witness how this unique shrine transforms sorrow into reverence, memory into renewal.

Unlike many others, it predates Buddhist influence and feels almost untouched by time. As you walk beneath its vivid vermilion gates and along its tranquil stone paths, offer a silent prayer to the guardian kami of travelers, the sea, and safe passage—both literal and spiritual.

From here, we move into a celebration of beauty and transformation at Kimono Botanical, where you’ll be carefully dressed in a traditional kimono, complete with elegant hair styling. This is not just an outward adornment—it’s an embodiment of grace and a connection to centuries of ritualized identity. Let yourself feel the shift as fabric, color, and symbolism wrap around you.

We’ll enjoy a traditional lunch, dining together in our ceremonial attire, honoring the moment with presence and joy.

Next, we step into the tranquility of Shitennō-ji Temple, Japan’s oldest official Buddhist temple, founded over fourteen centuries ago. Here, we pause for reflection in the serene Gokuraku-jōdo Garden, a Pure Land paradise designed to mirror the Buddhist vision of heaven on earth.

The afternoon offers time to indulge in Osaka’s vibrant flavors with lunch and exploration at a local market—whether among the bustling stalls of Kuromon Ichiba or the colorful offerings of Abeno, where street food and delicacies tell the city’s story in every bite.

The atmosphere is hushed, mystical—an intimate farewell blessing from the city itself.
