About Your Trip
A Shugyō Experience Into the Mystical Soul of Japan with Grant & Reanna Wilson
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey into the heart of Japan’s spiritual and cultural essence, guided by renowned paranormal investigator Grant Wilson and spiritual practitioner Reanna Wilson. This 14-day immersive adventure during Japan’s autumnal equinox is far more than a tour—it is a shugyō, a sacred pilgrimage of inner transformation, ancestral connection, and mysterious discovery.
As the veil thins during Higan, the sacred Buddhist observance of the equinox, we’ll honor Japan’s deeply rooted spiritual traditions. The spirits of the departed are said to draw near during this season, and you’ll feel their presence in temple courtyards, misty forests, and sacred mountains.
But this is only the beginning.
Throughout our journey, we’ll experience Japan’s rich cultural soul firsthand:
– Walk beneath thousands of crimson torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha
– Step into stillness at the Golden Pavilion and the moss-draped mystery of Okunoin Cemetery
– Dress in traditional kimono, create your own ritual incense, and join esoteric fire ceremonies alongside monks in sacred Kōyasan
– Explore the megalithic secrets of Asuka, the hauntingly beautiful Aokigahara Forest, and the eerie ruins of the Kaizuka Sanatorium

You’ll also witness the grandeur of the Taiga Reiken Ceremony, an exclusive and rarely seen spiritual rite during Kyoto’s fall festival season. Here, ancestral spirits are awakened through candlelight and chant in a deeply moving event that few travelers ever get to experience.
By night, follow flickering lanterns into Japan’s haunted side—guided ghost tours through Kyoto’s ancient streets, paranormal investigations at sacred shrines and abandoned sites, and immersive storytelling in legendary landscapes like Oiran Buchi Gorge and Awashima Shrine, where spirits of the forgotten still stir.
Grant and Reanna Wilson will guide you through every step—offering insight, spiritual grounding, and connection as we explore Japan’s most hidden layers, both mystical and cultural.
This is not just a tour—it’s a transformational passage through spirit, story, and centuries of sacred tradition.
Join us on a path where the past is honored, the veil is lifted, and the soul of Japan opens before you.

Castles, Bamboo & Shadows of Kyoto
We begin the day within the storied walls of Nijō Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where shoguns once walked the “nightingale floors,” their soft chirps designed to warn of unseen intruders. The castle whispers of power, intrigue, and the silent watch of centuries past.
Afterward, we travel to Arashiyama, pausing for lunch before stepping into the ethereal beauty of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Towering stalks sway above us like green cathedrals, their rustling leaves carrying the sound of ancient breath. Here, light and shadow weave together in a dreamscape unlike anywhere else.
As evening approaches, we attend the Awata Taisai Festival’s Reiken Ceremony, a sacred ritual of purification where divine flames are carried to banish misfortune and call in blessings for the season ahead.
Our night concludes with a Kyoto ghost tour, delving into dark tales and urban legends that haunt the city’s streets and bamboo paths. Under the cloak of night, we follow stories of restless spirits and cursed lovers, letting the uncanny side of Kyoto reveal itself in whispers and shadows.
This day lingers between splendor and fear, serenity and the unknown—Kyoto’s truest face.
DAY 9: Oct 13th, 2025
Path of Lanterns: Monks, Stone & Eternal Rest
Today, we ascend into the sacred heart of Mount Kōya, home to one of Japan’s most revered spiritual centers. Our journey begins at Kongōbu-ji Temple, the head temple of Shingon Buddhism. Within its quiet halls, we pause for reflection in its famous Zen rock garden, where patterns of stone and sand mirror the stillness of the cosmos.
For lunch, we share in the monastic tradition of shōjin ryōri, a temple-style vegetarian cuisine that embodies simplicity, mindfulness, and reverence for life.
In the afternoon, we step into the otherworldly realm of Okunoin Cemetery, Japan’s largest and most sacred resting place. Guided along lantern-lit paths beneath towering cedars, we’ll encounter moss-covered gravestones, timeless statues, and the legendary mausoleum of Kōbō Daishi himself. Here, amidst the hush of the forest and the flicker of eternal lamps, the boundary between the living and the departed feels hauntingly thin.
As dusk gathers on Mount Kōya, the day closes in a spirit of reverence, remembrance, and wonder.
DAY 10: Oct 14th, 2025
Guardians of Time: Nara’s Shrines, Spirits & Ancient Tombs
The morning opens at one of Japan’s most awe-inspiring sites—the Great Buddha Hall, where the towering bronze Daibutsu gazes serenely across the centuries. Within this vast temple, silence carries the weight of devotion, inviting us to reflect beneath the watchful presence of this monumental guardian.
From here, we step into the lively harmony of Nara Park, where sacred deer roam freely among visitors. Lunch and leisure time allow for exploration—wander beneath ancient trees, visit small shrines, or simply enjoy the quiet company of these gentle messengers of the gods.
Our journey takes a darker turn with a visit to Ōmiwa Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest and most mysterious shrines. Known for its deep ties to the supernatural, we’ll engage in a paranormal investigation, seeking to connect with the unseen forces that linger around its sacred grounds.
The day concludes at the enigmatic Ishibutai Kofun in Asuka, a megalithic tomb shrouded in legend. Here, colossal stones form a chamber said to guard both ancient rulers and whispered mysteries. As twilight deepens, the atmosphere of this burial mound becomes a meditation on mortality, memory, and the endurance of spirit.
By nightfall, we carry with us the dual essence of Nara—its gentle blessings and its spectral secrets.
DAY 11: Oct 15th, 2025
Gates of Flame, Dolls of Memory & Osaka After Dark
Our morning begins at the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of vermilion torii gates wind their way up the sacred mountain. As we pass beneath these arches, we walk a path of blessings, guided by fox spirits said to guard the shrine’s mysteries.
From there, we journey to Awashima Shrine, a sacred site known for its extraordinary rituals. Here, countless dolls—each carrying stories, prayers, and burdens once held by their owners—are offered in ceremonies of release. Through guided storytelling, we witness how this unique shrine transforms sorrow into reverence, memory into renewal.
In the afternoon, we uncover the chilling secrets of Nanatsuka, the “Seven Burial Mounds.” These enigmatic graves, tied to ancient executions and forgotten tragedies, haunt the Tennoji area with a history rarely spoken aloud. Their presence lingers as a silent testimony to Osaka’s darker past.
The evening invites a lighter turn as we enter the neon brilliance of Dōtonbori District. Here, beneath glowing signs and riverside lights, enjoy dinner and free time to explore at your own pace. Street food, lively entertainment, and bustling alleys offer a feast for both the senses and the spirit.
Daylight shows us shrines and silence; night reveals Osaka’s vibrant pulse. Together, they complete the circle of the day.
DAY 12: Oct 16th, 2025
Fragrance of the Divine: Shrines, Silk & the Way of Incense
We begin our day at the serene Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest and most architecturally unique Shinto shrines. Unlike many others, it predates Buddhist influence and feels almost untouched by time. As you walk beneath its vivid vermilion gates and along its tranquil stone paths, offer a silent prayer to the guardian kami of travelers, the sea, and safe passage—both literal and spiritual.
From here, we move into a celebration of beauty and transformation at Kimono Botanical, where you’ll be carefully dressed in a traditional kimono, complete with elegant hair styling. This is not just an outward adornment—it’s an embodiment of grace and a connection to centuries of ritualized identity. Let yourself feel the shift as fabric, color, and symbolism wrap around you.
We’ll enjoy a traditional lunch, dining together in our ceremonial attire, honoring the moment with presence and joy.
In the afternoon, we take a peaceful walk to a local incense shop, where you’ll take part in an incense crafting and ritual workshop. Learn the spiritual significance of scent in purification and prayer, and create a blend that speaks to your own intention—whether for protection, remembrance, or inner peace. This is a sensory journey into the unseen.
We return to Osaka for dinner, carrying with us not only the aroma of sacred woods but a deepened sense of self, layered with stillness and ceremony.
DAY 13: Oct 17th, 2025
Castles, Spirits & Osaka After Dark
We begin our journey into history and legend at Osaka Castle, where we uncover its hidden stories through a Legends & Spirits Tour. Behind its formidable walls lie tales of ambition, betrayal, and ghostly echoes of the samurai who once defended it.
Next, we step into the tranquility of Shitennō-ji Temple, Japan’s oldest official Buddhist temple, founded over fourteen centuries ago. Here, we pause for reflection in the serene Gokuraku-jōdo Garden, a Pure Land paradise designed to mirror the Buddhist vision of heaven on earth.
The afternoon offers time to indulge in Osaka’s vibrant flavors with lunch and exploration at a local market—whether among the bustling stalls of Kuromon Ichiba or the colorful offerings of Abeno, where street food and delicacies tell the city’s story in every bite.
Our spiritual path continues at Sankō Shrine, dedicated to the legendary warrior Sanada Yukimura. Revered as a spirit of courage and loyalty, his presence lingers here, inspiring those who come to honor him.
As night descends, we close our journey with a backstreet Osaka tour and dinner, weaving through hidden alleys alive with neon, stories, and flavor.
DAY 14: Oct 18th, 2025
Blessings, Flavors & A Final Night of Wonder
On our last morning together, we visit Hōzen-ji Temple, a hidden jewel tucked into the narrow alleys of Osaka. Here, the moss-covered statue of Fudō Myōō is bathed in water by worshippers, a ritual that shrouds the guardian deity in an eternal green veil. The atmosphere is hushed, mystical—an intimate farewell blessing from the city itself.
From there, we dive into Osaka’s culinary soul with a cultural food exploration and light lunch at Kuromon Market. Known as “Osaka’s Kitchen,” this vibrant marketplace overflows with local delicacies, flavors, and curiosities, offering one last taste of the city’s spirit.
The afternoon unfolds with free time for rest or wandering, or for those who wish, an optional street food stroll through Osaka’s hidden corners—sampling takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and other beloved bites while discovering the cultural oddities tucked between neon signs and old streets.
As night falls, we gather for a spectacular fusion performance of Japanese entertainment, where traditional artistry meets modern flair. Music, dance, and theatrical wonder light up the stage, leaving us with one final memory of joy, magic, and connection.
It is a fitting close to our journey—blending the sacred, the flavorful, and the celebratory into one last night together in Japan.

Reanna Wilson has been surrounded by the paranormal since before she could talk.
Constant intense interactions made the paranormal second nature to her. It wasn’t weird, it just was. She always found the humanity in it, seeing the dead as people, and helping wherever she could. There was simply no other way to see it.
Her strong desire to help people fueled her passion for the medical field where she became a CNA and Dialysis Technician. After raising her children she pursued her medical passions again and became a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Her paranormal, medical, and motherly experience gives Reanna a warm, yet grounded approach to paranormal investigation and life in general, making her instrumental in the many cases she has resolved. Reanna brought her unique outlook to “Ghost Hunters”, quietly aiding behind the scenes. It wasn’t until the return of Ghost Hunters in 2019 that she decided to officially step forward in the role of Producer.
When she isn’t helping people cope with the supernatural, Reanna is usually found sipping tea, kayaking, hiking, camping, in a Disney park, or traveling the world. She mostly enjoys time at home with her three sons and husband Grant, with whom she has completed hundreds of paranormal investigations since their marriage in 1997.
