DAY 1: Wed., 6/25/2025

\bucksport maine

In the beginning… Dark Shadows in Maine

What better place to pick you up than in Bangor, Maine?  Often referred to in Dark Shadows as the bigger city, it will be the prime spot to start the Dark Shadows magic!
Our tour’s first nostalgic destination is Bucksport Maine, a town that was first to inspire Dark Shadow's fictional town of Collinsport.  Many say that Bucksport was chosen as the original series’ inspiration for Collinsport, for they shared many commonalities.  Here we will hold our traditional "Welcome Lunch"!
Bucksport, as we will discover, is a megaplex for the storylines of Dark Shadows. We will explore the town's "Museum in the Streets" to capture these connections.  Recall Collinsport's large, abandoned buildings, including a seminary, a harbor, and even an inn. You will find these in Bucksport, unraveled by time. It's a quaint variety store in Bucksport's Toziers Store on Main Street resembles Collinsport's General Market.
The Jed Prouty Tavern and Inn that stands today in Bucksport was said to have been an inspiration for the Collinsport Inn.  It was built around 1780 as a two-family home and was converted into a tavern and inn around 1820. In this guise, it hosted prominent national figures, including Daniel Webster, and Presidents Marin Van Buren and William Henry Harrison.
More chillingly, Collinsport was the home to witches, werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural beings. You will find these similar chilling anomalies also present in Bucksport's historical legends, reputation and tales passed down for so many years! Oh, what fun we will have learning about this from local storytellers! One of the most famous ethereal stories is that of Jonathan Buck, the founder of this town. We will visit his Monument which shows chilling evidence of a curse bestowed on him from a witch in the 1700’s!
After a wondrous walk around Bucksport, we will take you to another seaside treasure, Camden Maine. Camden holds a special place in the lore of Dark Shadows, due to its atmospheric relevance. Here we will go on a short boat ride to Curtis Island, where we will see the Curtis Island Lighthouse. Many fans believe that this is yet another inspiration for the setting delivered by the Collinsport Lighthouse.
After dinner, as we approach the evening hours, we continue to explore Camden’s historical architecture and its secrets. At dusk, we will take part in Camden's Ghost Walk.  We will certainly capture the town's old-world charm, a reminiscent moment of the awe of "Dark Shadows."
Whew! What an incredible first night of exploration within the legacies of Dark Shadows!
🛌  Hartstone Inn 🍴 Welcome Lunch
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability or weather & travel conditions.

DAY 2: Thurs., 6/26/2025

The Breakers

Casting Dark Shadows onto Gilded Masterpieces of Newport Rhode Island

We leave Camden Maine behind us and travel down the beautiful New England Coastline toward Newport Rhode Island.
Before we head out, we will pay our respects for a peek into the town of Rockport, Maine. Not to be missed, this was where Rev. Gregory Trask and his family ran a private school called Worthington Hall. Although Worthington Hall was (fictionally) burned down by Laura Collins, we will explore the Goose River Bridge near the picturesque Rockport Harbor, which is said to be haunted by a very happy ghost.
At midpoint we will stop at the Warner House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Dating back to 1716, this historic home is one of the oldest urban brick houses in New England and is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a little girl. We will stop near here for some lunch.
In the late afternoon, we will arrive at one of the prime locations that expounded much influence on the creation of Dark Shadows, Newport Rhode Island. We will take on the experience of touring one of its famous gilded-age mansions, The Breakers. We will explore this grand property with a special focus on tales of hauntings and the esoteric interests of high society in the era relevant to Dark Shadows.
🛌  Inns of Newport
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability, weather & travel conditions.

DAY 3: Fri., 6/27/2025

Newport Rhode Island

More Supernatural Adventures in Newport Rhode Island

In the morning, we will continue to whisk by the Carey (Seaview) Mansion, whose exterior building was the iconic Collinswood Mansion in Dark Shadows. Today, it is a private property, but efforts will be taken to look at this French Gothic masterpiece.
Later, you may join us for some local food and historical delights at The Black Pearl restaurant on Bannister's Wharf. This restaurant was the influence of Dark Shadow's fictitious "Blue Whale Tavern" in Collinsport, a popular place for the town's citizens to meet, and known for having the best seafood!  Has it maintained its reputation? We will see!
After some free time in this historic city, we will gather for some surprise activities that wrap around the occult influence that Dark Shadows was based on. Prepare for special “Other-Worldly” experiences to be formally announced with the final itinerary.
🛌  Inns of Newport 👻  Ethereal Event
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability, weather & travel conditions.

DAY 4: Saturday, 6/28/2025

Essex Connecticut

Essex Connecticut

The Essence of Dark Shadows in Connecticut’s Harborside Towns

We say farewell to beautiful Newport, and head south to reach another iconic town in the world of Dark Shadows, Essex Connecticut. This location served as a stand-in for the fictional town of Collinsport in the "Dark Shadows" films, specifically in "House of Dark Shadows." The charming maritime atmosphere and the historic architecture of Essex provided an ideal backdrop that closely resembled what fans would expect of Collinsport, a quintessential New England coastal town
Prepare to embark on a journey through Essex, CT, where history echoes in every corner and the spirits of bygone eras whisper through the streets, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of time. Could we find the old Collins Cannery? Perhaps we may find the Windcliff Sanitarium that hosted so many cliffhangers in Dark Shadows episodes!
What better place to have dinner and stay than the Griswold Inn, that is often referred to as the influence of the Collinsport Inn, thus filming the inn's exterior during production? Built in 1776, the Griswold Inn is one of the oldest continuously operated inns in America and is rumored to be haunted.
We will take the opportunity of the historical mood and spirits and hold a dinner session in full 1790's costumes! Who knows what phantoms we can conjure up tonight?
🛌  Griswold Inn 🥳  Costume Dinner Party
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability, weather & travel conditions.

DAY 5: Sun., 6/28/2025

Lyndhurst Mansion

Tarrytown: A most mysteriously tainted by Dark Shadows

We will start our morning leaving Connecticut, but not until we stop at the beautiful Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk Connecticut, famous for being one of the filming locations during the production of “House of Dark Shadows”. Built in 1864, it is regarded as one of the earliest and most significant Second Empire-style country houses in the United States. It also is host to many ghost stories!
With then point towards the direction of Tarrytown, New York, where we reach one of the highlights of our tour! We will visit and tour the stunning Gothic Revival mansion, Lyndhurst Mansion, famously used as the exterior of Collinwood Mansion in Dark Shadows.
We will wander through this grand Gothic Revival Estate and its gardens, which once captured the imaginations of filmmakers and gothic enthusiasts alike. Both theatrical films, House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows were shot primarily at the Lyndhurst.
The Spratt Mansion, which sits on the property of the Lyndhurst Mansion, served as the location of the "Old House", the original Collinswood Mansion. Unfortunately, only remnants remain due to a fire in 1969.  Alas, remnants of this house still remain in the property, offering another spooky perspective of our visit to this historical DS property!
After lunch, we step into the historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where we will explore its famous graves and soak in the hauntingly beautiful atmosphere that complements our pursuit of Dark Shadows iconic locations. We will trace the staggering steps of Willie Loomis and enter the cemetery's 112-year-old underground receiving vault which appeared in the film as the crypt of Barnabas Collins. We may even take a peek at the private mausoleum that producer Dan Curtis originally intended for the Collins family crypt.
Let's take a stroll through Kingsland Point Park and enjoy a tranquil walk through this picturesque setting, featuring views of the historic Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse and the serene waters that have intrigued generations of enthusiasts of the supernatural.
We are approaching the end of our tour, so it is important to celebrate with dinner on us, at the Old 75 House in Tappan. This historic restaurant, known as America's oldest tavern, has a rich history dating back to the American Revolution and offers a cozy, rustic setting that could very well evoke the feel of The Eagle from "Dark Shadows." With its low ceilings, dark wood paneling, and period decor, The '76 House captures a similar historic and mysterious vibe, making it a great real-life stand-in for the fictional locale.
After a dinner at a historic (and haunted) venue, our night will end, and your day with a thrilling ghost tour through Tarrytown's most haunted spots. Learn about local legends and ghostly encounters in this captivating evening adventure.
🛌 Castle Hotel and Spa 🍴Celebration Dinner at the Old '76 House in Tappan

DAY 6: Mon., 6/30/2025

Philipsburg Manor

Farewell to the memories of Dark Shadows

In the morning, we will visit Philipsburg Manor before we depart for the airport. While it operates more as a living history museum, this special property has a centuries-old history that includes tales of hauntings. This pre-Revolutionary War farm includes a manor house, a mill, and outbuildings.
After lunch, we will provide a transfer to the White Plains Westchester County Airport.
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability, weather & travel conditions.

New York City

An Additional two days of spectral wonder in Haunted New York!

Not included on this tour, but will be made available as an add-on at the tail end of the Dark Shadows experience. After all, we are so close to the Gotham City, so WHY NOT?
We will be offering a fun two-day (add-on) haunted experience in New York City for those who wish to continue an unforgettable supernatural experience! It all starts with a train ride to Grand Central Station. Why?
