A Spiritual Journey in Trim
Another highlight of the trip was going to the Púca Festival in Trim. This is a festival over 4 days, and per their website, it was “developed….to tell the story of Halloween’s origins in Irish and Celtic traditions.” The Púca is a shapeshifting spirit from Celtic folklore associated with Samhain. According to folklore, it would roam the night and change the fortune (good or bad) of those it came across.
Night One: Exploring the Festival’s Charm
Puca Festival of Ireland, Co. Meath.
We did not go for the entire four days, just two nights. We showed up roughly an hour or two the first night before it shut down. Just enough time to see the small vendor area and get some dinner from one of the food trucks. I found some cool ghost candles as well as some ceramic ghosts to bring home. We were able to catch the end of the fire performance before the group got rounded back up and we headed over to the circus tent and watched the human circus performance. The performers were amazing and put on a great show. You can see some of the performances over on my travel Instagram.

Night Two: A Parade and a Spiritual Journey Through Ireland’s Traditions
Puca Festival of Ireland, Co. Meath.
The second night we went back for the parade. We got some more time to shop, but the issue with going back in the evening was that some vendors were sold out of stuff again. The shop where I got my candles was so popular, what I wanted sold out for a second day. And the official festival merchandise booth didn’t have the shirt I wanted in my size. So, tip: go in the morning to get the best chances at stuff.
It started to rain (no surprise there, it’s like Seattle according to my friends, and just drizzles hard enough to be annoying), so to stay dryish, we popped into a bar to pass some time. If you don’t like beer, but like liqueur, do yourself a favor and try a baby Guinness. You’ll thank me. We had a view of the street where the parade was going to come by, so when we saw people starting to line up, we headed out and grabbed a spot for the group. The wait in the rain for this parade was worth it! Great costumes and displays. It did not disappoint.
A Festival That Combines Adventure and Culture
The Púca Festival in Trim is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to travel to Ireland experience its rich cultural history and take a spiritual journey of your own!
