A Journey Launches off into the Viking Shadows

After your flight to Newcastle International Airport, you will submerge into the enigmatic landscapes of Northern England where the Vikings roamed these lands centuries ago.

Our journey begins at the mystifying Tynemouth Priory and Castle, a place that harbors stories of Viking raids, eerie legends, and a history shrouded in mystery.

Stand upon the ancient ruins and imagine the Viking longships approaching the shores. As you explore the castle's hidden passages and dark corners, you'll feel the presence of those who once defended this coastal fortress against the relentless Viking invaders.

As twilight descends, we'll regroup for a special evening experience filled with Viking ghost stories and legends during our Welcome Dinner.

The eerie atmosphere of Tynemouth will leave a backdrop for tales of restless spirits and unexplained phenomena, one of more to come in our Viking excursion.

DAY 2: Dec. 14, 2024

Commencing Where the Viking English Invasion Began

Today, we continue our journey into the heart of Viking territory, where the shadows of history loom large, and the past remains veiled in mystery. Our first stop in our Viking commemorative experience brings you to the point where the onset of their invasions started in England during the infamous 793 AD raid. We will take you to the remote and mystical Lindisfarne sitting proudly on Holy Island. Be welcomed by its famous Priory and Museum, while you walk in the footsteps of the ancient monks and Viking raiders who once clashed on these sacred grounds.

At this very site, the Vikings established their hardened intent to invade England right at this site.

The attack on Lindisfarne sent shockwaves through Christendom, symbolizing the vulnerability of religious institutions to Viking raids. As we walk the grounds, you will hear the whispering tales of Viking conquests and spiritual mysteries. We will visit its museum which holds relics and artifacts from this turbulent era.

Before we leave this magical place, we will take a moment to soak in the tranquility and the deep sense of history that envelops the coastline of Holy Island.

With this, we will pay homage to the Viking spirits who still linger in these ancient landscapes. We will have lunch in the village of Beal.

We will conclude our day just as impressively as the first with the formidable Bamburgh Castle.

You will behold a fortress that continues to keep (within its walls) the history of Viking attacks, occupation, and ancient secrets during their reining era. Explore the castle's battlements, walk through its towering halls, and feel the echoes of battles fought against Viking invaders. As you delve into the castle's history, you'll sense the lingering presence of warriors from a bygone era.
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability or weather & travel conditions.

Onward West towards Norsemen Treasures and Monastic Mysteries

Our first destination is the enigmatic Dock Museum, home to the Hoard, the UK's most extensive collection of Viking treasures.

Here, you'll examine ancient artifacts and unlock the secrets of the Norse invaders. Be prepared for spine-tingling discoveries and glimpses into a shadowy past.

You will receive a glimpse into the monastic life of centuries past, we will visit the Furness Abbey.

Cloaked in mystic beauty, and whispers secrets of a bygone era, it was founded in the 12th century by Savigniac monks. Although it is only proximal to where the Vikings once roamed and yet not invaded, its tranquil ruins evoke an ancient presence.

Spectral Voyage to the Isle of Man: Exploring History & its Mysteries

Step aboard the ferry, towards the Isle of Man, where the waters between Barrow-in-Furness and the Isle of Man hold stories of ghostly encounters and spectral apparitions. These include tales of the Huldrefolk (hidden people), Nykkes (water spirits), and other mythical beings that played a role in Viking and Norse mythology.

Our first destination on the Isle of Man is the House of Manannan, a museum that unravels the mysteries of Celtic and Viking folklore.

Here, the boundary between the realms thins, and ancient sagas come to life. Delve into tales of the sea god Manannan Mac Lir and the Viking invaders who sought his favor.

After this visit, you'll have free time to explore the Isle's other mystical sites.

Wander among the ruins of Peel Castle, steeped in ghostly legends, or venture to the Fairy Bridge, where offerings to the Little People still mystify.

We continue to Wystan's Church, with ties to the infamous Great Heathen Army.

Here, the echoes of Viking conquests linger, and the church stands as a silent witness to centuries of history shrouded in myth and legend.

Today’s final destination is Tamworth Castle, a site of significance during Viking invasions in England.

During the 9th century, it played a role in battles between Viking forces and Anglo-Saxon defenders. Today, the castle stands as a testament to that tumultuous history, connecting Tamworth to its Viking past.
